We were told we probably qualify for R&D relief, but nobody will tell us what happens if the claim is wrong.

R&D relief is worth having and it is now heavily scrutinised. The claims that fail are rarely the ones without merit — they are the ones without a contemporaneous record of what was actually attempted and why it was uncertain. We build the record as the work happens, and coordinate the specialists who file.

Research & Development · Dinmore Bell

Dinmore Bell builds and holds the evidence base behind an R&D relief claim — the technological uncertainty, the competent professional, the work done and the costs attributed — captured while the work happens. It does not give regulated tax advice and does not file; accountants or specialist advisers prepare and submit under its coordination.

01

How we own it

01

What actually qualifies

An honest assessment before any work starts, against the current guidance rather than the one that applied three years ago. If the answer is that a project does not qualify, you get that answer for free and early.

02

The evidence, built as you go

The competent professional, the technological uncertainty, the work done to resolve it, and the costs attributed to it — captured while the project runs, not reconstructed a year later from timesheets and memory.

03

The claim, and what happens after it

We coordinate the accountants and specialist advisers who prepare and file, hold the timetable, and own the response if HMRC opens an enquiry. An enquiry answered properly in month one rarely becomes anything else.

02

Where specialists come in

We do not give regulated tax advice and we do not file your return. The technical tax treatment and the claim itself are prepared by your accountants or by instructed specialist advisers, whom we coordinate and hold to the timetable. Our work is the evidence, the project record and the management of the process.

Common questions
What is R&D relief support from an outsourced General Counsel?
Dinmore Bell builds and holds the evidence base behind an R&D relief claim — the technological uncertainty, the competent professional, the work done and the costs attributed — and coordinates the specialist advisers who prepare and file it. We do not give regulated tax advice or submit returns.
Do you prepare and submit the R&D claim yourselves?
No. Preparation and filing are done by your accountants or by instructed specialist tax advisers. We coordinate them, hold the timetable and own the process, including the response to any HMRC enquiry.
What happens if HMRC opens an enquiry into the claim?
We own the response and coordinate the specialists who answer the technical points. Because the evidence was built while the work happened rather than reconstructed afterwards, most enquiries are answered on the documents already held.
